Fairy Circle is shaped from a ring of stitched hawthorn leaves, arranged to echo the old ringforts and fairy circles scattered across the Irish landscape. I used real hawthorn leaves as my reference, following the fine serrated edges and branching veins before rebuilding each one in layered green thread. Set in a full circle, the leaves lean gently toward the centre, creating a feeling of shelter and quiet significance.
The piece draws on the deep connection hawthorn has in Irish tradition, where the tree is often seen as a marker of thresholds and protected places. By forming the leaves into a circular structure, the work nods to those ancient earth rings that still sit in fields and hillsides, holding story, memory, and a sense of something just beyond reach.
Up close, the threads catch the light in small shifts, giving the circle a soft pulse of life. Even in its stillness, it feels like a space that invites respect.
It is framed in a white wood box frame with Artglass to protect the detail and keep the colours true.
