This print comes from my stitched artwork Bladderwrack in Blue I, which was based on bladderwrack gathered along the Shannon Estuary. The original work is part of my In Blue series, created in homage to Anna Atkins and her cyanotypes. I inverted the usual palette so the algae carry the blue against a bright white ground. The print holds the same airy branches and rounded bladders that give the seaweed its lift and movement, keeping the clarity and softness of the stitched piece.
Each print is produced using archival pigment inks on beautiful Textured Fine Art 330gsm paper. The depth and detail of the original stitching comes across so well that people often can’t believe it’s a print.
