Wild Pansy is part of my Irish Native and Naturalised Wildflower series, created from close observation of a plant that grows in pockets of grassland, roadsides, and gardens across Ireland. I studied the velvet purples, soft mauves, and bright yellow centre that give the flower its expressive face, then rebuilt those colours and shapes in layered thread. The petals hold a gentle waviness that feels true to how the pansy lifts itself toward the light, both delicate and quietly bold.
I wanted to honour the presence of a flower many of us walk past without noticing, even though it is full of detail once you stop to look. The piece is framed in a white wood box frame with Artglass to protect the fine stitching and keep the colours clear.
