Opium Poppy

€180.00

Opium Poppy is part of my Irish Native and Naturalised Wildflower series. Although often associated with warmer climates, poppies have long naturalised across Ireland, appearing in gardens, roadsides, and disturbed soil where their colour feels almost unexpected. I studied the silken texture of the petals and the rich, saturated red that seems to glow from within, then built the bloom in layers of thread so the colour rises and folds like fabric caught in light.

The dark centre anchors the piece and gives contrast to the softness around it. Even though the flower looks delicate, there is a strength in the way the petals hold their shape before they fall. The stitched version carries that same tension between fragility and confidence.

Framed in a white wood box frame with Artglass.
