Oak Autumn Rainbow is composed from repeated studies of the same Sessile Oak leaf, shown in the shifting colours it moves through across its life. I used a single leaf from the native Irish Sessile Oak as my reference and traced its familiar curves, then reimagined it in a circle of seasonal tones. Each stitched leaf reflects a different moment in the cycle, from deep summer greens to the russet and amber shades that appear as the year turns.
The circle brings the leaves into quiet conversation with one another, showing how the same form can hold so many identities through time. Up close, the thread reveals tiny changes in weight and texture, a soft echo of how real leaves age, dry, and deepen in colour. The arrangement has a gentle sense of movement, almost like watching the seasons turn in place.
The work is framed in a white wood box frame with Artglass, which protects the fine detail and keeps each colour crisp and luminous.
