"Contours" is a delicate exploration of movement and structure through the tactile medium of thread. Created using freehand machine embroidery, this piece presents a square boundary within which fluid, undulating stitch lines converge and diverge. The curved, intersecting lines guide the viewer's eye in rhythmic flows, forming visual topographies reminiscent of natural elements such as wind patterns, water currents, or terrain lines on a map.

The piece exemplifies how embroidery, traditionally seen as decorative or domestic, can be used to convey sophisticated conceptual and visual narratives. The contrast between the strict outer edges and the soft, organic interior lines creates a dynamic tension, emphasising how boundaries influence and are influenced by internal movements.

Through this work, we investigate the interaction between line, space, and form, using thread as both drawing tool and structural element. Each stitch not only traces a path but also builds a subtle texture, inviting viewers to consider the physicality and time embedded in its creation.
