Beautiful Fan Weed II began with a piece of fan weed I picked from the shoreline of the Shannon Estuary. After pressing it, I followed the original ribs and branching edges as I stitched, letting the form build outward in layers that echo the way it once moved in water. The texture is dense and tactile, almost coral like, with tiny pockets of shadow settling between the threads. The berry red holds a warm gradient across the fronds, catching the light in a way that gives the whole piece a sense of lift.
